Jets Fly Into Another Grand Final But Injuries Loom Large

By ADEM SARICAOGLU

GREENVALE will be at Windy Hill this Saturday taking on Aberfeldie in the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Grand Final for the third time in five years.

But will three of the Jets best players be out there?

Suddenly, after a very good season that has largely been injury-free, Jets coach Paul Chapman has a headache or two.

Star midfielder and Reynolds Medal favourite Addam Maric is in doubt for the big one after going down with a hamstring complaint during Saturday’s Prelim win against Maribyrnong Park, while both Fabian Deluca and Courtenay Dempsey did not play.

It was a fast, high-scoring affair at Coburg City Oval as both sides exchanged early blows in the opening term, before Greenvale kicked clear in the second to establish a handy four-goal buffer at the main break.

Both sides came out of the sheds looking to score quickly and score they did.

Fourteen goals were shared during the third term but Greenvale managed to stay ahead and looked to be well in control and on their way to another Grand Final, before injury struck one of Maribyrnong Park’s stars.

Ruckman Chris Prowse, named the Lions’ best, suffered a serious lower leg injury late in the third term, halting play for a significant period.

So much so was the delay, play eventually had to be called off, with Greenvale’s 33-point three-quarter time buffer standing as the final result.
