THIS is definitely a match-up that no one expected to see.
Some are still shocked that Airport West is here at Windy Hill against Glenroy for the Essendon Ford Division 1 Grand Final.
But take nothing away from the Eagles, as they have played great football for most of the year.
Three rounds out from finals, the Eagles sat fifth on the ladder, a game out of the four, looking like they weren’t going to make it at all.
Two rounds out from finals saw them still fifth, however sitting on the same points as both Oak Park and Taylors Lakes.
One round out from finals, Airport West sat fourth, taking the last final spot out of Taylors Lakes’ grasp on a minor gap in percentage.
Fast forward to now, and Airport West will play Glenroy in the big one after a five-point win against Tullamarine and a one-point win over Hillside in the first two finals.
Glenroy definitely earned their spot in this year's grand final after what has been an incredible season.
Ending the home-and-away season on top of the ladder with 14 wins and two losses, they couldn’t do much wrong.
In the first final they blew the Sharks out of the water, winning by 95 points, which saw them straight into the big dance.
Now, their last opponent will be Airport West.
Having not really been troubled by the Eagles throughout the year, Glenroy will come out quite confident that what they have done in the past is all they need to do this week.
However, Airport West have found some of that impressive form they had at times during the season and rekindled it with near-perfect timing.
If Airport West can find those extra legs here, there is no doubt they can run with the best.
However, Glenroy has been running all year long, and nothing will change here.
This isn’t one to miss.
