Glenroy’s Community Noticeboard: A Positive Step Towards The Future

By JULIA MONTESANO

GLENROY’S new scoreboard finally launched last month after the completion of a 12-month process to obtain it.

While it does serve the purposes of a scoreboard, the official term for the new structure is a community noticeboard.

The name is fitting, as it recognizes the tireless work put in by the Strathmore Community Bank.

The Bank contributed half the money towards the noticeboard and were the main contributors in the process of getting it up at Sewell Reserve.

The community noticeboard not only displays both high definition football and cricket scores, but it also has the impressive feature of screening videos.

This development celebrates a new era for the Glenroy Sports Club, and will give them an opportunity to further connect with their diverse community.

But this would have been harder to achieve without the generosity and hard work of their sponsors, whether it was financial or construction assistance.

Strathmore Community Bank, Fisher and Paykel, FPS Constructions and Light Edge Electrical Solutions all made their own contributions, demonstrating their support for the club’s innovation.

Glenroy sponsorship manager, Paul Sweeney, is looking forward to the prospects that the scoreboard offers for the future of the EDFL community.

“We’re really proud of it (noticeboard),” Sweeney said.

“It gives our sponsors a hell of a lot more coverage and we hope everyone will enjoy it and utilise it.”

The 4.8x3.8 metre noticeboard is the one of the most impressive structures in the EDFL.

Its huge size certainly matches the huge investment put in by the club and all the sponsors involved.

“We wanted to get the best we could absolutely afford,” Sweeney said.

“It’s a great investment that everyone can use and we hope it can raise funds for the club.”

The Glenroy noticeboard is a breathtaking innovation in the EDFL and encompasses what the league is all about, which is the community.
