EDFL Women’s Preview - Sunday Games

Round 11 Edition

PASCOE VALE v KEILOR
Sunday 2:20pm at Raeburn Reserve

THE Panthers broke through for their first victory of the season with a seven-point win against Strathmore in Round 10.

Despite starting strongly and preventing Strathmore from scoring in the first quarter, Pascoe Vale trailed by a point at half time before kicking the only other goal of the game in the third quarter to take the points.

The was win pleasing for a team that has found the going tough this year but has stuck to its guns.

Stephanie Rogerson kicked her first goal for the year alongside Marie Napoli.

Keilor was challenged but never headed by Burnside Heights, recording a 20-point win last weekend.

Kallyn Gent led the charge for the Blues and was complemented by Eleanor Cornish, Lisa Kirby and Sophie Freeman.

Pascoe Vale will come into this match-up feeling positive, however Keilor will want to continue to build momentum heading into the final rounds of the year.

SUNBURY LIONS v BURNSIDE HEIGHTS
Sunday 3:00pm at Clarke Oval

The Lions return home to play Burnside Heights after two away losses to ladder leading teams in Westmeadows and Aberfeldie.

Renee McMahon and Jessica Sutton were named the best for the Lions as they went down to Aberfeldie by 88-points in Round 10.

A four-goal-to-two second quarter got Burnside Heights back in the game after a slow start, but Keilor was then able to control the game after half time.

Maria Afuhaamango and Kayla Ravanello continued their outstanding seasons but could not get the Bears across the line.

In Round 1 Ravanello and Brodie Stevens caused the Lions headaches, with Jessica Rowe and Jessica Sutton trying hard to keep their team in the game.

The Lions will be looking to reduce the margin from their first encounter.

ESSENDON DOUTTA STARS v MOONEE VALLEY
Sunday 2:20pm at Buckley Park

This match looms as the most telling game of the round, in what should be an exciting, pre-finals test for both teams that sees the competition’s two best forwards go head to head.

Essendon Doutta Stars forfeited their first scheduled match against Moonee Valley, but have not put a foot wrong since.

Moonee Valley has had an interesting run with forfeits, having unluckily missed three games due to withdrawals, and is now coming off its first loss of the season.

The Stars were pushed by Tullamarine in Round 10 but showed grit and got across the line.

The Fog, however, was upset by Maribyrnong Park, taking until the third quarter to kick the first of their two goals for the match.

The Lions were able to curb the influence of Georgia Marsland and if the Stars can do the same, it will go a long way for them winning the game.

Up the other end is Aleesha Hobbs, who the Fog back line needs to be wary of after a solid two-goal performance last week.

Bonnie Alderman, Stacey Williams, Erin Tarollo and Nadia Valenti will also feature prominently in this game and provide important roles for Douttas.

MARIBYRNONG PARK v COBURG DISTRICTS
Sunday 2:20pm at Maribyrnong Park

Maribyrnong Park pulled off an impressive victory against ladder leading Moonee Valley, leading throughout the day to assert its presence as we head into the final month of home-and-away football.

The Lions restricted the scoring opportunities of Moonee Valley and created 17 of their own.

Kate Arnold drove the ball forward throughout the game was able to set up Gabrielle Mahoney, who capitalised with three goals.

Sophia Poursanidis (two goals) and Alex Kilty were the other main contributors.

Coburg Districts met Roxburgh Park in Round 10 and went down by 62 points.

The ‘other’ Lions here will be determined to continue their evolution as a group and hope to celebrate a few goals, led by Madeleine Curotte.
