Marics Combine For Six To Topple Lions

MARIBYRNONG Park is no longer undefeated after Greenvale managed to survive a late scare at Monk Oval in a thriller on Saturday.

The super-accurate Jets stormed to a nine-point half time lead with eight straight goals in the second term, but the Lions continued to match them on the scoreboard in front of a bumper crowd for the top-of-the-table clash.

With the margin only at one point at the final change, Greenvale managed to stay ahead in the final term, but the Lions kept coming.

They couldn’t convert when it mattered, however, and the Jets went on to survive and move level with Marby at 6-1 on top of the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division ladder.

Addam Maric finished with four goals while brother Nick kicked two.

*EDFL Match of the Day highlights from this game will be released later in the week.

Final - Maribyrnong Park 11.14-80 < Greenvale 14.6-90

Hillside Wins Shark Park Thriller To Stay In Finals Hunt

TWO last-quarter goals from Mitch Church and Brandon Coletta helped Hillside sneak over the line against East Keilor in an Essendon Ford Division 1 thriller.

Both Sharks forwards kicked three goals each as their side had to mount a comeback in the third quarter after going into the main break down by 24 points.

With Jackson Volpato and Lachie Rayner among some important inclusions, Hillside managed to get back into the game in the second half but with Luke Podhajski and Michael Licciardo leading the charge up the other end, the increasingly desperate Cougars kept it close to the finish.

In what was a huge game for both sides, the Sharks managed to keep in touch with the top four, moving to 4-3, while the Cougars are stuck at 1-5 ahead of another huge game against Oak Park coming up this weekend.

Final - Hillside 14.10-94 > East Keilor 13.13-91

Good Lions Show Up To Beat Valley

COBURG Districts may be fifth on the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 ladder, but no one in the division is taking them lightly.

The Lions can be good one week and horrible the next, but the good Lions were on display at home to Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Luke Vesnaver was among the inclusions as the Lions shot out to 13-point half time lead, but the Fog kicked six goals to four in the third term to sneak ahead by two come the final change.

Last year's competition best-and-fairest combined with Tom Lucin to kick four goals combined as the Lions slowly wrested back control in the last, going on to record win number three for the year, staying in touch with the top four.

Up the other end, Jordie Faba continued his good form with three goals, leaving him only four behind the division’s leader, Rocky Ferraro.

It was Moonee Valley’s second consecutive loss after a 5-0 start to the season.

Final - Coburg Districts 14.13-97 > Moonee Valley 11.16-82

Saints Defend Home Turf Against In-Form Magpies

THE Northern Saints are now 2-0 at home against Roxburgh Park this season after a seven-point win on Saturday.

It follows a 65-point win in their first meeting with the Magpies back in Round 1.

Rocky Ferraro was again the star up forward (four goals) and Jake McSwain proved a crucial inclusion as well, as the hosts proved more efficient in front of goal to record a hard-fought seven-point win – their second since Round 3.

While the Saints were accurate in front of the sticks, Roxburgh Park kept shooting itself in the foot.

Luke Capuano finished with two goals to take his season tally to 22, but the Magpies continually found themselves behind for much of the second half, ending up with 30 scoring shots to the Saints’ 22, yet seven points behind in the column that mattered.

Both sides are now 4-3 in what is a very tight top four race in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2.

Final - Northern Saints 13.9-87 > Roxburgh Park 10.20-80

Panthers Flag Favourite After Shutting Down Bears

PASCOE Vale firmed as the flag favourite in EDFL Women’s after outlasting Burnside Heights in the top-of-the-table clash on Sunday.

The Bears had been undefeated at home coming into Round 7, but the Panthers also held an unblemished record.

After keeping the Bears scoreless in the opening term, Pascoe Vale was able to stay in control.

But the Bears were up for the fight, keeping the competition’s highest-scoring team to just four goals for the day – its second-lowest score for the year.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the Bears, who were without their star forward, Brooke McKinley.

They remain second on the ladder.

Bridgette Aparo was best-on-ground for the Pantehrs.

Final - Burnside Heights 3.1-19 Pascoe Vale 4.8-32
