Abers Holds Off Improving Mores

ABERFELDIE completed a perfect month for June with a gritty eight-point win at Strathmore on Saturday.

It was a tough, low-scoring affair at Mascoma Street with just three goals kicked in the first quarter before play opened up in the second.

Aberfeldie booted five goals to two to establish an 18-point lead at half time, but from there Strathmore was able to restrict the reigning premiers to just one more goal for the day.

The Mores kicked the only two goals of the final term but couldn’t chase down Aberfeldie by the final siren, suffering its first loss since Round 4.

In the absence of Kyle Reimers and Jayden Foster, Josh Pound was important up forward for Abers with two goals, while Athan Tsialtas was Strathmore’s best with two of his own.

TULLAMARINE is now a game clear on top of the Division 1 ladder after outlasting Craigieburn on EDFL Match of the Day on Saturday.

From there the game was on Tullamarine’s terms, as Dean Bartrop, Adam Scott and Oliver Klemm took hold of the contest to help the Demons to a 34-point win - their eighth in a row.

Brad Allen maintained his good form up forward with three goals alongside two each from Ryan Pretty and Blair Cronin.

Fog Rises To Second Over Bears

MOONEE Valley has moved to second spot on the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 ladder after a come-from-behind victory at Burnside Heights on Saturday.

Like Tullamarine did against Craigieburn, Moonee Valley successfully reversed its result from earlier in the season against the Bears but had to do it the hard way, coming back from 10 points down at three-quarter time to claim an 11-point win in a very low-scoring game at Tenterfield Drive.

Both teams had a 14-day lead-in for Saturday’s contest, but it was the Fog who entered with key players missing, with Cory McGrath not taking the field and Ned Wilson lining up for the reserves.

In their absence, James Saragias and Kris Thomas stood tall for the Valley while Jack Newman kicked two of his side’s six goals for the day.

At the other end, Burnside Heights spearhead Josh Covelli was kept goalless by Anthony Ciancio, leaving Matthew Peterlechner to do most of the heavy lifting with two of the Bears’ five goals.

Logan Clegg was the Bears’ best in what was their third loss of the year.

The result saw both clubs swap places inside the top four of the Division 2 ladder.

Hawks Deliver Big Blow To Neighbouring Saints

HADFIELD’S Division 2 finals hopes are still alive after a scrappy, but impressive 14-point win over the Northern Saints at Martin Reserve.

The Hawks led at every change as on-field leaders Brett Pitts (two goals and best-on-ground) and Brad Murphy (one goal) stood tall throughout the day.

Harley Ferguson and Heath McKerchar also impressed for the home team as they took revenge for their Round 2 loss to the Saints back in April.

The Hawks now only have one less win to their name than fourth-placed Coburg Districts.

The severely out-of-form Saints have dropped two spots in two weeks and are currently in fifth spot on the ladder with tough games against Burnside Heights and Moonee Valley coming up next.

With Brodie Stevens controlling play around the ground, Burnside Heights eventually claimed victory with two goals from Maddison Cooper and another from Jasmine Beki.

Mollie-Ann Gregory was Sunbury’s best with one of her side’s three goals for the day.
