Division One Preview - Round 14 (Part 2)

By Tara Murray

WEST COBURG v CRAIGIEBURN
Saturday 2:15pm at Shore Reserve

WEST Coburg is making a late run at a finals berth and will be hoping that Craigieburn is its next victim.

The Burgers claimed the scalp of then ladder leaders Tullamarine last up, in a very strong performance.

After establishing a lead early on, the Burgers were able to maintain it throughout to come away with their best win of the season.

Jesse Martini kicked his second bag of three goals in the win, while Sam Spagnolo continued his good form being named the best.

A win here for the Burgers would reduce the gap between them and the top four to one game and percentage.

After this week, the Burgers only have one game against a top four side, giving them one of the easier draws in the run home.

Craigieburn will be looking to continue their momentum with a top two spot on the line.

The Eagles won their second match in a row with a four-quarter performance against Taylors Lakes in Round 13 after getting out to an early lead and building it throughout.

Shannon Smith took his goal tally to 24 with six majors, with 10 players getting on the scoreboard.

The Eagles have shown this season they have been one of the more consistent teams and this will be another good test heading into the final few rounds.

TULLAMARINE v OAK PARK
Saturday 2:15pm at Leo Dineen Reserve

For varying different reasons, both these sides come into this game in need of a win.

The Demons dropped their last match with one of their worst performance of the season against West Coburg.

The Demons never got going at Coburg City Oval, trailing by at least three goals at every break.

Ryan Pretty was again in the goal kickers, this time with three, as just four players hit the scoreboard.

Jonathan Hardman played one of his best games for the season and was a shining light.

The loss proved costly with the Demons losing top spot.

Another one this week could see them slip outside the top two.

With the bye next week, the Demons will be looking to come through unscathed.

Every match is crucial for the Kangaroos in the run home, as both Taylors Lakes and Roxburgh Park now sit two wins clear, with four rounds remaining.

An upset win would help again throw open the relegation battle between the three sides.

The Kangaroos have been better in recent rounds.

After beating Roxburgh Park, they were competitive for periods against Westmeadows in Round 13.

James Barnes and Aden Harris, who sits second in the club’s goal kicking, kicked two goals each.

Daniel Rajab was named the Kangaroos’ best for a second successive week.
