THE EDFL has today announced the inclusion of Ascot Vale as an expansion club for the 2017 season.
The club will this year field an Under 9s team and over time will grow to include a team in every age group, including juniors and seniors.
EDFL CEO Marc Turri has welcomed Ascot Vale ahead of the forthcoming junior season.
“The inclusion of Ascot Vale provides a great opportunity for the EDFL, and Australian Football generally, to increase our foothold within the southern Moonee Valley region,” Mr Turri said.
“The population increase south of Maribyrnong Road has increased demand on junior participation in Australian Football and Ascot Vale presents a great opportunity to turn that demand into new participation to our game.”
A club from Ascot Vale previously competed in the EDFL as a founding member in 1930 through to its final season in 1987.
