All U15 Sides Undefeated After Round 1

#AFLVicMJC Wrap

ALL three EDFL U15 representative sides scored wins in their opening games of the 2018 AFL Victoria Metro Junior Championships in the wet last night.

The EDFL’s best U15 boys took on the Northern Football Netball League at Burnside Heights last night, where the U15B side opened their account with a comfortable 66-point win.

The EDFL led at every change, with William Banks (Pascoe Vale) and Matthew Doody (Strathmore) each kicking two goals in the tricky conditions.

Strathmore’s Max Taylor was best-on-ground.

The U15A side then took the field in what was a much closer game against the NFNL.

A solid four-goal-to-none third quarter had the EDFL up by 17 at the final change, but the NFNL made use of the scoring end in the final term to get within striking distance late.

Aberfeldie’s Ryan Martin was one of the best players on the ground with two goals, while Abers teammate Patrick Carracher was given the medal as the EDFL’s best-on-ground in the hard-fought seven-point win.

The U15 Girls teams travelled to Werribee’s Avalon Airport Oval to take on the WRFL and scored an impressive 36-point win.

Conditions were slippery but the EDFL handled them better, with Keilor star Montana Ham awarded best-on-ground honours.

Moonee Valley’s Charlotte Clayton was the star up forward, finishing with four goals.

Meanwhile, both EDFL U14 Boys sides suffered losses against the NFNL at Watsonia.

The U14B side enjoyed a good start against the NFNL with two unanswered goals in the opening term, but the home side then clicked into gear after quarter time and went on to score a 28-point win.

Josh Heaton (West Coburg) and Max Bruns (Westmeadows) were the EDFL’s best.

The U14A side then struggled to make amends, as the NFNL proved far too good with a comfortable 69-point win.

Kyle Millsom (Burnside Heights) was named the EDFL’s best alongside Carlos Egan (Strathmore) and Marcus Di Sipio (Aberfeldie).

Round 2 for all teams will be played on Saturday, June 9.
