THE EDFL and AFL Victoria are supporting a state-wide community Love the Game Round and you are invited to participate.
In partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, the round will be held across the state from 27 to 30 June 2019, uniting elite and community football clubs in our love of everything that makes footy great.
Why is this important?
Betting and sport don’t have to go together.
Prolific gambling advertising can make it seem like sports betting is a normal part of sport or that you need to bet on sport to make it interesting.
In fact, 75 per cent of kids aged 8–16 who watch sport think betting on matches is normal.
When something is normal, it doesn’t seem risky, which is why The Love the Game round is the ideal time to remind parents and other role models to have ‘the talk’ with the young people in their lives. Visit lovethegame.vic.gov.au for tips on how to have the talk.
How can you get involved?
1. Agree to say no to sports betting sponsorship and sign up to the charter. It’s easy and only takes a couple of minutes – visit vic.gov.au/join.
2. Follow the Foundation on social media to stay up-to-date with all things Love the Game.
3. Share, post and tag social content – visit lovethegame.vic.gov.au/resourcehub to download content that’s ready to go.
4. Encourage everyone in your community to have ‘the talk’ with the kids in their lives.
